The entire project, once completed is set to yield 8000 housing opportunities for residents from various informal settlements in the City of Cape Town such as New Rest, Gxagxa, Kanana, Barcelona, Lusaka, Europe, Thambo Square, Vukuzenzele, amongst other informal settlements.

This Integrated Residential Development Project (IRDP) will create a range of housing opportunities to cater for various income groups. There will also be commercial and a light industrial component, school sites, social facilities and agricultural land. It is estimated that 3 500 job opportunities will be created during Phase 1’s implementation of the project.

Scope

PTS-S were contracted for the supply and execution of the multi-strand post tensioning on the new Bannerman Bridge, which links the R102 to the new Welmoed Housing Estate. The bridge deck is a 97m long prestressed concrete bridge deck with 4x spans of approximately 25m width. The deck design consists of 3x spine beams, with each spine beam containing 8x 13-strand post tensioned tendons. Stressing and grouting for post tensioning was completed in record time and all stressing and grout results were within the specified tolerances.
